Convert image formats for free

Change which format an image is stored in. Converts between PNG, JPEG, WebP and AVIF, and takes HEIC as an input.

Pick the format you want — WebP to start with — and one of three quality steps. Everything runs in your browser, and the file you started from is not modified.

Up to 50 images at a time, 25 MB each, shared with the other tools because images carry over between them. The pixel ceiling is between 12 and 20 megapixels depending on the device — an image above it is scaled down to fit. Still images only.

How to use it

  1. Drop the images you want to convert, or pick them.
  2. Choose the target format and a quality step.
  3. Check the result and download it.

What it is for

  • Turning a PNG into a JPG or WebP for size or compatibility
  • Turning iPhone HEIC photos into JPG
  • Preparing images for the web as WebP or AVIF
  • Bringing many images to one format at once

Common questions

Can I convert an animated image?
Not with this tool — it works on still images, and that covers animated WebP as well as GIF. The compressor is the one that keeps animations, and it can write them back out as GIF or WebP.
Can I convert to HEIC?
No. HEIC works as an input only: your browser turns it into a PNG working copy on arrival, and nothing here writes HEIC.
Do my images get uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, and your images are never sent to a server.
